The Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores, founded in 1992, is a volunteer group of adult men and women from the community that are interested in promoting optimism and helping children. Throughout the year, we conduct, promote and participate in a number of community-based, national and international projects including the annual Santa Station and Train at the Selinsky Greenhouse, Thanksgiving and Christmas donations and deliveries of food baskets to needy families in our community, the special needs children’s picnic, the Junior Golf Tournament, and the Childhood Cancer Campaign.

The Optimists also work closely with other key clubs and the city during the annual Goodfellows Newspaper Sales, the Nine Mile Road Clean-up, SCS Memorial Day Parade and the SCS Fireworks.

Over the years, the Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating high school students from Lake Shore, Lakeview, South Lake and North Lake during their annual Champions Banquet & Auction held each May.

The Optimist Creed

Promise yourself-

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all you friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
