The Optimist Clubs of Macomb County and the Grosse Pointes will be conducting a Jr. Golf Tournament for Boys and Girls, ages 12-18, at the St. Clair Shores Country Club on May 17, 2008. Winners will be sponsored in the state-wide tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the Optimist International Jr. Golf Tournament held at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Last year we were fortunate enough to send two of our players to the Florida tournament.
Some former participants in Optimist-sponsored events include Bubba Dickerson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Michelle McGann, Ernie Els, Justin Leonard, Nancy Lopez, Phil Mickelson, Nick Price, Corey Pavin, Craig Stadler and Eric Compton.
Childhood Cancer Campaign Sponsorship
The Optimists are looking for a Tournament Sponsor, and Hole Sponsors with all proceeds going to the Optimists’ Childhood Cancer Campaign. The Childhood Cancer Campaign is designed to build awareness of the disease, provide assistance to children and their families, and to support research to find a cure. This year the Campaign will focus on Wigs 4 Kids, whose main focus is to reach out to young cancer patients and provide them with customized wigs and services, helping them feel as good as possible and to look more like themselves and their peers.
